Are you confused about when to use Photoshop and when to use Lightroom? Do you find raw files hard to work with? And how Adobe Bridge fits into your digital workflow? In the first of two workshops devoted to Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 2, Tom Hogarty will guide you through an exploration of the differences among Lightroom, Bridge, the Camera Raw Plug-in and Photoshop and the best ways of incorporating each into your digital darkroom. YouŐll learn when to use Lightroom and when to use Photoshop to make the highest quality conversions. Tom will discuss how to make global and selective adjustments to images while taking full advantage of both programs' nondestructive image-editing environments. He will also provide instruction on creating templates and presets for added efficiency when outputting presentations across multiple media, including print, web and digital projections.

Tom Hogarty is the senior product manager at Adobe and is responsible for Lightroom, Photoshop Camera Raw Plug-in and the DNG file format. Before joining Adobe in 2005, he was a consultant to professional photographers, helping them make the switch from film to digital. He holds Bachelor of Science in Engineering and Master in Business Administration degrees, both from Duke University. Tom has taught digital photography and the Lightroom/Photoshop workflow at many venues, including PMA, Photokina, Photoshop World and MacWorld.

If you are not familiar with Lightroom and Photoshop, Tom recommends that you take his Basics workshop before attending this Advanced one.

Description We photographers love taking those great images, but we often fall short on organizing, converting and selling them. In this workshop, Darrell Gulin will explore how to prepare images, as well as where and how to market your work. He will do side-by-side reviews of images and invite participants to join in the editing process and discover how good they are at this important aspect of photography. Darrell will cover how images can be marketed and the various markets that exist. He will also explain how to shoot conceptual images that have commercial value. Through a comparative exercise, he will show which of his images have sold the best over the years and explain why.

You want to create great prints on paper or canvas from those wonderful images in your files. Yet are you frustrated by varying colors or inconsistencies when you try to print? Join Jon Canfield as he leads you through the fine points of tuning your images for fine art printing. He will discuss resizing, sharpening, creative borders, media selection and color management for printing, so that what you see on screen is what prints. All participants will have the opportunity to print a large format image (up to 20"x 24") during the Summit. Jon is experienced in both the Mac and Windows operating systems and in both Epson and Hewlett Packard printers. He will be answering questions about both platforms and both printers.

Kathy Adams Clark has been a professional nature photographer for 16 years. A past president of NANPA, she teaches photography at local and national events and leads photo workshops to Costa Rica, Ecuador, Italy and Morocco through Strabo Tours. In addition, she teaches photography at local and national events. Kathy owns a stock agency that represents the work of 15 nature photographers. Her own work has been published in many places, including publications such as Birder's World, Nature's Best, The New York Times, Ranger Rick, Texas Highways and Texas parks & Wildlife, and many books and calendars. Her images also appear every week in the "Nature" column in the Houston Chronicle and San Antonio Express News written by her husband, Gary Clark. Adobe's Photoshop Elements is a powerful, yet inexpensive image-processing program that uses the same processing algorithms that Photoshop does. Rob Sheppard believes that most nature photographers could use Photoshop Elements 6 together with Lightroom and get better results than 90 percent of photographers do by using only Photoshop. In this workshop, Rob will discuss a key workflow for nature photography (which also applies to Photoshop and Lightroom), how to master adjustment layers and layer masks, how to work with raw files, the best way to clone, and other valuable tips. Photographers flock to Bosque del Apache National Wildlife Refuge as much as the birds do, but being there doesn't guarantee great images. Join avian photographer Arthur Morris as he shows you what you can do to improve your bird and wildlife photography, particularly at Bosque. In the first half of the workshop, Artie will share his tips for photographing at the refuge, one of his three favorite places on the planet. In the second half, Artie will share his digital workflow with special emphasis on the techniques that he uses regularly on his Bosque images. His approach to Photoshop is to optimize his images quickly while still producing photographs of extremely high quality.
